Djibouti Report
by Richard Goebel SOC Field Worker
The first SOC for Djibouti was held in March, 2011. It was cheaper to
bring the students into Ethiopia than to hold a school inside Djibouti. So
we brought them out, but many were detained at border as "terrorist", and
turned back. We went ahead with the school through the difficulty of no
electric or running water. But we rented a generator to run DVD's and the
students did receive the SOC teaching anyway.
By the 3rd day, it was very obvious that three of the students were
extremely serious and that the full weight of the lessons were dealing
with their lives. All three are former Muslims who have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.
These three have made it very clear that they see that the people and
churches of Djibouti need this kind of teaching. They have already begun
to plan on how they can help is bring the school to the Churches in their
country. We will begin to translate the school into Somali, which is the
language of Djibouti, as well as Somalia. This language group represents
22 million people of the Horn of Africa, most of which follow the Muslim
religion. We believe that the school can run twice inside Djibouti as well
as twice inside Somalia by the end of the year.
Please continue to pray that we can move through these open doors quickly.
We must work while it is day, for we see the darkness falling around us.
Soon it will be night when no man will be able to work.
In Christ, Richard Goebel
